An eight-year-old boy from Romania has been found drowned in the sea near the Elenite resort, the Burgas Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry said Tuesday.

The report was filed at around 8:43 on Tuesday morning at the police station in Nessebar. The incident took place on an unguarded area of the beach between the Royal Park and Zornitsa hotels. The child was carrying a mattress and dragged by the rough sea.

The eight-year-old boy went into the sea with his mother and younger brother. At one point, the sea dragged the Romanian with the mattress, and his mother was unable to hold him. She carried her second child ashore and sought help from officials on nearby jet skis. They went to the receding mattress and found that the child had drowned. His body was washed up on the beach and is to be taken for autopsy to the Forensic Medicine Department of the University Multidisciplinary Hospital for Active Treatment - Burgas.

Lifeguards on the southern Black Sea coast said that despite the hot weather, it was dangerous to enter the sea because of the violent swell that had been going on for several days.
