Romanian President Klaus Iohannis described Wednesday the ongoing Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure on the Danube near Romania as "unacceptable".

"These are war crimes and further affect Ukraine's ability to transfer food products to those in need around the world," the Romanian head of State wrote on his Twitter account.

Early Wednesday morning, Russia attacked the port of Izmail on the Danube, which is 15 kilometers from the Romanian city of Tulcea. A Russian drone attack caused damage to port infrastructure and sparked fires in the Odessa area of southern Ukraine.
