Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) co-chair Kiril Petkov told reporters on Wednesday that his party will support the candidacy of the current governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), Dimitar Radev, for a new term. Radev, whose candidacy was raised by GERB-UDF, confirmed that he is willing to keep his post, which is why he met with CC-DB.

The answers we received are entirely in the direction of our programme, Petkov explained. The main conclusion of the discussion is that Bulgaria should be in the eurozone no later than January 1, 2025 and Parliament and the BNB will work together to achieve these goals, Petkov said. We also agreed that the Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs will focus on the EU, the euro area and Schengen and thus the coordination between the BNB, the government and the Parliament will be in sync, he said.

Radev also said that Bulgaria should join the euro area as soon as possible, but not later than January 1, 2025. In his words, it is very important that political support for the process expands because without it the goal will be unrealistic. He believes it is an ambitious goal, but one that is achievable.

There are three candidates for BNB governor - Radev, proposed by GERB-UDF; Lyubomir Hristov - by Vazrazhdane, and Nikolay Kavardzhikliev - by BSP for Bulgaria. They will be heard on Thursday by the Parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance.
