123 Charging Stations
for Electric Cars Built in Bulgaria
with EU Funding, 76 More Underway


Sofia, January 3 (BTA) - A total of 123 charging stations for electric cars have been built in Bulgaria with EU funding under the operational programmes for regional development in the current and the previous programming periods, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works said in a press release Sunday. Another 76 charging stations will be build by the end of the current programming period, with the total investment amounting to 6.4 million leva and the projects being implemented through low-interest lеnding with financial instruments.

The 123 stations already built and in use are located in Sofia, Blagoevgrad, Pernik, Gotse Delchev, Doupnitsa, Kyustendil, Petrich, Plovdiv, Haskovo, Pazardjik, Kurdjali, Smolyan, Assenovgrad, Dimitrovgrad, Velingrad, Karlovo, Panagyurishte, Bourgas, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Yambol, and Kazanluk. The other 76 stations will be built in settlements in Southern Bulgaria.

Sofia's 25 charging stations were built in the previous programming period through low-interest lending from the JESSICA instrument and 263,000 leva in grants under Operational Programme Regional Development (2007-2013). The total investment amounts to 2.5 million leva.

The project is aimed at creating conditions for popularizing electric vehicles as a clean, ecological and economical means of transport, the development of which will contribute to the reduction of air pollution, noise pollution and the levels of fine particulate matter, the press release reads.
