Eco-schemes for Organic Farming
to Be Applied for First Time
under New Common Agricultural Policy

Sofia, February 15 (BTA) - For the first time, eco-schemes for the maintenance of organic farming under the First Pillar in the new EU Common Agricultural Policy will be applied. The aim is to provide an additional incentive for organic producers in addition to basic support for sustainability in direct payments, which will encourage the development of the sector, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry said on Monday.

This became clear during a video conference meeting of the Thematic Working Group for Drafting a Strategic Plan for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Areas for the 2021-2027 Programming Period. One eco-scheme is aimed at organically raised farm animals and the other, at organic farming in agricultural areas. Their development is at the suggestion of the branch organizations in the sector.

Support will be provided in the form of an annual payment per hectare of agricultural land or livestock unit that has passed the transition to organic production and is certified as organic. RI/DT
