site.btaOne Person Is Detained and Charged in Operation Against Trade in Fake Documents

Sofia, February (BTA) - One person has been detained and charged
 following an operation against trade in fake American and
Bulgarian identity documents in Shoumen, Northeastern Bulgaria,
Nevena Zartova, head of the Sofia District Prosecution Office,
told a news briefing on Wednesday. According to initial data the
 person that has been detained acted as in intermediary in the
purchase of the forged documents. He has no previous
convictions.

Investigators believe that the illegal trade carried on for more
 than two years. There is information about foreign nationals
who wanted to buy fake documents and about other persons who
were involved in the illegal operation.

Law enforcers found 13,000 leva, 1.17 bitcoins, 18
cryptocurrency debit cards and many photographs of American and
Bulgarian identity documents in the home of the man and their
authenticity has yet to be established.

Lyubomir Yanev, head of the General Directorate for Combating
Organized Crime, said that the documents were sold on the
darknet. The man has sold more than 230 identity documents on
the territory of Bulgaria. RY/PP
