February 26 (BTA) - Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met here Friday with Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic to discuss the progress of projects of joint interest in energy and infrastructure. Among the highlights was the preparation works for the construction of a Bulgaria-Serbia gas interconnector which will supply liquefied natural gas from the terminal in Alexandroupolis, Greece, said the government information service.

Bulgaria has a 20 per cent share in the terminal.

Borissov is quoted as saying that it will be "very good for us to see Serbia diversify some of its gas supplies as well". "Through the interconnector, they will be able to get liquefied gas from Israel, Qatar, Egypt, the US and other sources," he added.

"The highways we are building, and the railways, and the fact that one can go from Belgrade to Varna and Bourgas without having to stop at traffic lights, is a big advantage for businesses, tourism and all of us," said the Prime Minister.

He also reiterated his country's support for Serbia's road to the EU, underscoring the fine goodneighbourly relations that Bulgaria has with the neighbouring countries.

"We live in a region where it takes a very strong will by the political leaders of the countries to always put first peace and goodneighbourliness," said Borissov. LN/RY
