March 11 (BTA) - The Ministry of Justice Thursday said it is urgently convening a working group over a decision of the EU Court of Justice, according to which, by failing to provide judicial control before handing over a wanted person, Bulgaria has not met the requirements for effective judicial defence when issuing a European Arrest Warrant. The working group will include representatives of the Judiciary, the Supreme Bar Council, and the academic community.

They will discuss legislative revisions so as to respond to the problem raised in the Court of Justice's decision regarding the regulation of judicial control over European Arrest Warrants issued by the Bulgarian prosecution service.

The European Court of Justice adopted the decision following an inquiry by a British court about a European Arrest Warrant issued by the prosecution office in Svishtov (on the Danube).
