Tango Ballet in
Sofia Opera Marks Centennial Anniversary of
Astor Piazzolla

Sofia, March 12 (BTA)- An opening performance of the Tango ballet in the Sofia Opera on March 26 marks the centennial anniversary of Astor Piazzolla, sources from the opera said. The event is under the auspices of Argentine Ambassador in Bulgaria Alfredo Nestor Atanasoff.

The members of the ballet company describe the performance as "Passion, beauty, and expression of emotions. The desire to be yourself, an invitation to a dance".

The choreography of the ballet is by Svetlin Ivelinov.

Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) was an Argentine tango composer, bandoneon player, and arranger. His works revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style termed nuevo tango, incorporating elements from jazz and classical music. In 1939 Piazzolla joined the orchestra of Anibal Troilo, one of the most famed tango orchestras of all times. Piazzolla's own formation, the Octeto Buenos Aires, began a new era in tango. Piazzolla is one of the artists who inspire the great guitar player Al Di Meola who recorded an album with Piazzolla's works. RY/ZH//
