Sofia, March 29 (BTA) - President Rumen Radev conferred here on
Monday with the founder of the "Send a Bulgarian Book to
Macedonia" civil initiative, Viktor Stoyanov, Radev's press
secretariat reported.

"The European Union's strength is not only in the free movement
of people, goods, services and capital, but above all, in the
free exchange of ideas, spirituality and culture. I hope that
the Republic of North Macedonia's state leadership, which so
energetically demonstrates an aspiration to join the European
Union, will be guided by the community's fundamental principles
and will be ever more open and tolerant towards our common
historical and cultural heritage," President Radev said.

"Send a Bulgarian Book to Macedonia" encourages the donation of
books to Bulgarians in North Macedonia, as well as its citizens
who show an interest in Bulgarian literature.

The Bulgarian President has supported the initiative by donating
a few novels by the famous Bulgarian writer, Dimitar Talev, who
was born in Prilep (present-day North Macedonia).

"The persecution of Bulgarian books, spirituality and culture in
the Republic of North Macedonia must irreversibly remain in the
totalitarian past, in the name of our common European future,"
said the Bulgarian head of State.

Stoyanov has thanked the President for his support, noting that
the initiative aims to reinforce the spiritual connections and
culturally unite people on both sides of the border. There is a
huge interest in Bulgarian culture in the Republic of North
Macedonia and it cannot be stopped, he said, adding that
Bulgarians from across the world have expressed interest in
donating books. NV/MY
