Sofia, July 8 (BTA) - The problem of connectivity in the region
of Central and Eastern Europe has to be solved, Latvian
President Egils Levits said, speaking at the Presidential Panel
of a business forum within the Sixth Summit of the Three Seas
Initiative which started on Thursday in Sofia. At the meeting
Latvia is to take over the hosting of the initiative from
Bulgaria.

Every country attending the 3SI forum is in it because the
project has great potential, because they have the digital
sector, the transport, the energy to be able to participate in
the development of this part of Europe, Levits said. Everyone is
welcome to participate, he added, particularly business. In his
opinion, that explains the interest of the EC, the USA,
countries in the Far East and the Middle East in the initiative,
for they see the promise of the region for business.

Latvia is ready to make its contribution, Levits said, quoting
concrete examples such as the Rail Baltica project, which will
better connect Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, the 5GTechritory
project - the greatest event in Europe dedicated to 5G
technology to be held in November, which is intended to turn
Latvia into a technological research hub.

Levits also underscored the importance of involving civic
society as one of the bases for the targets the 3SI countries
want to achieve. BR
