July 9 (BTA) - The supreme audit institutions
(SAIs) of Bulgaria, Croatia and the Republic of North Macedonia
are working towards united and economically strong Balkans,
which guarantees prosperity and a better life for the citizens
of these countries, said the President of the Bulgarian National
Audit Office (NAO) Tsvetan Tsvetkov at the official
presentation in Skopje of the second twinning project
"Improvement of External Audit and Parliamentary Control",
financed with European funds, the NAO told BTA on Friday.

Beneficiaries of the project are the SAIs and the National
Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia. The Bulgarian
National Audit Office is working on it as a junior partner, and
the leading one is the SAI of Croatia. In the first twinning
project, which the two audit institutions implemented jointly
for the Republic of North Macedonia, the Bulgarian National
Audit Office was in charge.

''The implementation of the new twinning project provides us
with an opportunity to continue our cooperation and with joint
efforts to turn our supreme audit institutions into modern and
strong guardians of the public interest, working effectively for
the public good,'' said Tsvetkov. ''I am convinced that we will
achieve long-term results, ensuring compliance with the
principles of good governance and transparency of public
finances and thus help accelerate the realization of the
strategic goal of North Macedonia's accession to the EU,''
added the Bulgarian NAO President.

The project leaders from the Bulgarian, Croatian and Macedonian
sides Vyara Angelova, Martina Yurevich and Tanya Yanevska
presented the main parametres of the twinning project, its
goals, tasks and components.

The twinning project is worth 1.5 million euro. The aim is to
review the best practices of the EU member states on the basis
of the SAI's international auditing standards, to develop
inter-institutional and international cooperation, the press
release of the Bulgarian National Audit Office states. RY/DT
