site.btaAnimal Welfare Organization Urges for Measures against Illegal Puppy Trade

October 25 (BTA) - The international animal welfare
organization Four Paws has called on the Bulgarian Minister of
Agriculture to implement measures against the illegal puppy
trade.

The organization uges for amendments to the Veterianary Services
 Act which will stop the mass breeding of puppies by
unregistered kennels and for the introduction of requirements
with regards to puppy trade.

Four Paws urges for stepped control over the mandatory
registration of persons who breed and sell dogs and for the
introdcution of a requirement for breeders to register as the
first owners of the dog.

According to the animal activists this will ensure traceability
and responsibility in case of problems afeter the animals are
sold.

The organization also calls for the implementaion of measures
for regulation of online puppy trade by introducing a
requirement for websites to be forced to use technologies for
tracing dog sellers. According to the organization this will
allow the sale only of regstered and microchippeed puppies. In
addition, Four Paws demand higher sanctions for illegal puppy
