Voter Turnout at 39.20 Per Cent as at 5 p.m.
Sofia, October 5 (BTA) - Voter turnout in Sunday's parliamentary
elections was 39.20 per cent as at 5 p.m., the Central Election
Commission reported. A total of 2,704,894 people had cast their
ballot by that time.
Turnout was lowest in the south-central Kurdjali Region, at
29.34 per cent, and highest in the northeastern Silistra Region,
at 44.20 per cent.
A total of 32,598 Bulgarians cast their ballot abroad by 2 p.m.
Sofia time, the Foreign Ministry reported.
Polling ended for the Bulgarians in New Zealand, where 93 people
cast their votes, and in Australia, where 313 votes were cast.
Voting also came to a close in Japan and South Korea.
Voting in prisons and detention facilities across Bulgaria was
almost over by the early afternoon, BTA learned from a source at
the Justice Ministry. Some 90 per cent of inmates who were
eligible to vote cast their ballot until around noon. The
process went flawlessly.
There were 11 voting sections for 627 voters in prisons and 15
voting sections for 616 voters in detention centres.
