GERB Leader Skeptical About
Chances for Stable
Government

Sofia, October 5 (BTA) - Boyko Borissov, the leader of GERB,
which won the most votes in the October 5 snap elections in
Bulgaria, is skeptical about the chances for having a stable
government after the vote. Appearing before the press in his
party headquarters after the exit polls were announced, he said:
"With this configuration [of parties in Parliament], I don't
see how we can have a government".

He added though that his party will wait for the official
results of the elections, and for the other parties and
coalitions to announce their position before making any
decisions.

Without looking triumphant, Borissov said that the elections
gave his party a big advantage over the others with its
significant lead in the vote count.

Asked to comment the likelihood of a coalition with the
Reformist Bloc, he said that Unfortunately, the RB did poorly at
the elections and with the seats they will have in the
legislature, and those of GERB, the majority would be unstable.
He lashed out at them for putting forward conditions for joining
a coalition of GERB (including having a possible GERB
government headed by a person different from Boyko Borissov).

He also said there is no way GERB can work with MRF. "I
congratulate them with the good results but we cannot have a
government with them."

Borissov went on to say that Bulgaria has a problem with a weak
Left. "The Left was displaced by extremely populist parties.
Obviously, BSP's problem was not their former leader Sergei
Stanishev - they did even worse at the elections with a new
leader."

Earlier in the election day, the GERB leader said that his party
is not going to hold the traditional election-night news
conference. LN/
