Health Minister Moskov: Child Death Rate in Bulgaria Is Far above Europe's Average

Sofia, December 30 (BTA) - The situation with child illness and
death rate in Bulgaria is tragic compared to average European
levels, Health Minister Peter Moskov said Tuesday. Moskov and
Pirogov Emergency Hospital Director Prof. Stoyan Milanov
unveiled a Pediatric Anesthesiology and Reanimation Clinic with
an operating theatre at Pirogov. The new way in which child
health care is financed, structured and staffed is a priority of
the entire incumbent majority and has also been set down in the
 governance programme, Moskov added.

Changes will include the valuation of every clinical pathway in
pediatrics, the Health Minister said. Child health care is not a
well-organized structure. A lot of effort is being put in the
new manner of organizing emergency aid as it is extremely
important for the children to be transported quickly to the
required specialist, Moskov said, commenting on the recent case
of a child in Razgrad (Northeastern Bulgaria) who died before
being transported to Varna (on the Black Sea).

Pediatrics is one of the medical specialties in which the state
has a special interest and attitude, and additional funds will
be invested in the training of pediatricians, as well as of
pathologists, microbiologists and specialists in infectious
diseases.
