Socialist Leader Mikov: Declared Intentions to Impose New Sanctions on Russia Should Be Reconsidered Urgently

Sofia, January 30 (BTA) - Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) leader
Mihail Mikov wrote on his Facebook page that he calls on the
Government and the European Commission to urgently reconsider
their declared intentions to impose new sanctions on Russia, the
party's press centre said Thursday.

"BSP has a clear position against any kind of broadening of
these sanctions. This position takes into view the
ineffectiveness of these sanctions in reducing the tension and
normalizing the relations between Russia and Ukraine, on the one
hand, and Russia and the EU, on the other," Mikov wrote on
Facebook. "However, this position also takes into view - and
this is of no less importance - the nature of the relations
between Bulgaria and Russia," he added.

According to Mikov, it is not in Bulgaria's interest to
participate in the processes against Russia that various
individuals initiate periodically. In his words, this EU policy
which does not consider Bulgaria's interests to an adequate
degree, has led to enough losses for the country. "It is time to
uphold more decisively our national interests," the BSP leader
wrote.
