Foreign Minister Reports on First 100 Days in Office

Sofia, February 17 (BTA) - Foreign Affairs Minister Daniel Mitov
Tuesday presented his ministry's highlights during the first
100 days in office and the Government's foreign policy
priorities.

As a result of an active foreign policy, three key visits to
Bulgaria took place within one month that are a proof of the
increasing importance of this country and an assessment of the
Government's foreign policy course: the visits of US Secretary
of State John Kerry, of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg
and of British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, said Mitov.

The Foreign Minister said that the efforts were focused on
confirming Bulgaria's strategic choice in respect to the foreign
policy orientation and the international commitments made and,
most of all, on establishing Bulgaria as a constructive and
reliable partner of the EU and NATO in the context of the
significantly changed security situation in the region.

Taking a question, he said that the Foreign Ministry does not
have data about Bulgarians fighting for Islamic State. He said
that Bulgaria supports the counter-terrorism actions and
recalled that special legislation is being elaborated to
criminalise the participation of Bulgarian nationals in Islamic
State, and measures are being prepared together with Bulgaria's
partners so as to limit the movement of the so-called foreign
fighters. /MORE/
