Deficit of BGN 2,337 Mln Reported in General Government Sector Statistics

Sofia, April 21 (BTA) - Preliminary data of the National
Statistical Institute (NSI) show that the General Government
sector posted a deficit of 2,337 million leva, or 2.8 per cent
of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in 2014.

The Central Government sub-sector too had a deficit, totalling
2,473 million leva, or 3 per cent of the GDP, while the
following subsectors posted a surplus: Social Contributions, 62
million leva and Local Government, 74 million leva.

Based on Council Regulation 479/2009 on the application of the
Protocol on the excessive deficit procedure, Eurostat expressed
reservations on the quality of the data reported by Bulgaria
and, in particular, the part regarding the sector classification
of the Deposit Insurance Fund and the impact of the Fund's
repayment of the guaranteed deposits in the Corporate Commercial
Bank on the public deficit. Eurostat (EC) in cooperation with
NSI will discuss this issue during the coming months on the
basis of the European System of National and Regional Accounts
2010 and the Manual on Government Deficit and Debt.

Bulgaria's debt for 2014 totalled 22,694 million leva, or 27.6
per cent of the GDP.
