Prime Minister, European Commissioner Discuss Electronic Government

Sofia, April 21 (BTA) - Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov
told European Commission Vice President Andrus Ansip on Tuesday
that the accelerated development of an electronic government
system is among the priorities of the Bulgarian government, the
Cabinet's Press Service reported.

Ansip, who is responsible for the Digital Single Market in the
European Commission, is in Bulgaria between Monday and Tuesday
to attend a public debate organized by the Commission about
Europe's future, electronic government and the Digital Single
Market. The Commission will unveil a strategy for the Digital
Single Market on May 6.

Borissov said the introduction of electronic government is of
key importance for the success of sectoral reforms. Among
Bulgaria's advantages he singled out the wide availability of
broadband internet service and the allocation of public funds
for its further spread, as well as the fact that there are good
Bulgarian information technology experts.

Ansip praised Borissov for the serious work accomplished by his
cabinet in this field, noting that Bulgaria should also be
active in helping to develop the EU's Digital Single Market. The
Commissioner said the development of the Digital Single Market
will involve efforts in three areas: facilitating access to
digital goods and services, creating appropriate infrastructure,
and establishing standards for the digital industry.
