Sofia, April 22 (BTA) - Two projects under the Bulgaria-Swiss
Cooperation Programme for the safe disposal of obsolete
pesticides and hazardous household waste were given the green
light on Tuesday. The two projects will be completed by 2019.

Nearly 4,500 tonnes of obsolete pesticides and herbicides are
stored across the country. Under the project, the pesticides
will be repackaged, transported, and disposed of in a safe way
and the storage facilities will be sanitized to eliminate all
possible risks to the soil and the people living nearby,
Environment Minister Ivelina Vassileva told journalists. The
project is worth 23 million Swiss francs.

Under the second project, pilot models for hazardous household
waste disposal will be developed in five municipalities which
will service another 17 smaller settlements, said Vassileva. The
project is worth over 8 million Swiss francs.

Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev said that the
Bulgaria-Swiss Cooperation Programme makes available 85 million
Swiss francs and targets areas which lack funding from the
national budget and the operational programmes in the field of
environment, security, social services and NGOs.
