SJC Ethics Committee Head:Reducing SJS's Term of Office Will Make It Dependent
Sofia, April 22 (BTA) - Yassen Todorov, head of the ethics
committee with the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), told
journalists on Wednesday that reducing the Council's term of
office from five to three years will make it dependent on the
executive and legislative powers. He was commenting on the
latest proposals for reforms and changes to the Constitution.
Todorov said that the gist of the reform is not changing the
Council's composition but changing procedural laws. According
to Todorov, calls to change the Constitution aim only to change
the SJC's composition. Todorov speculated that the current SJC's
lineup is inconvenient and does not meet somebody's
expectations.
Supreme Court of Cassation President Lozan Panov and Supreme
Administrative Court President Georgi Kolev would not comment on
the proposals for reforms before their formal announcement and
refrained from assessing the Council's work before the end of
its term.
