61% of Bulgarians Have Not
Heard of
Armenian Genocide - Poll


Sofia, April 24 (BTA) - Sixty-one per cent of the Bulgarians say
they have not heard about the Armenian genocide, while 39 are
familiar with it, according to the results of an opinion poll
conduced by the Gallup International Balkan polling agency from
January 30 to February 5. The poll was carried out on request by
the Armenian Embassy in Bulgaria and covered 1,011 Bulgarians
of age.

This means that around 2 million Bulgarians of age have heard
about this issue.

Answering a question whether the Bulgarian Parliament should
formally recognize the Armenian genocide, 60 per cent say that
they do not know and cannot make a judgment.

Less than 10 per cent of all respondents consider that the
Bulgarian Parliament should not formally recognize the Armenian
genocide, while 31 per cent hold the opposite opinion.

Of these who say they have heard of the Armenian genocide, 66
per cent consider that the National Assembly should recognize
it, while 6 per cent hold the opposite opinion. /PK/TK/
