Commission Asks Bulgaria to Comply with Certain Obligations under  EU Document Security Legislation

Brussels, April 29 (BTA Correspondent Nikolay Zheliazkov) - By
sending reasoned opinions, the European Commission has asked
four countries, Bulgaria, Estonia, Greece and Lithuania, to
ensure the mandatory exchange of information under the EU
document security legislation and the integration of biometric
features in residence permits, the Commission said in a press
release.

Almost three years after the deadline (May 20, 2012), the four
countries have not yet set up a Single Point of Contact to
ensure a smooth implementation of security features' standards
and meaningful communication between Member States, the
Commission noted.

Authorities from Bulgaria, Estonia, Greece and Lithuania now
have two months to take the necessary measures to comply with
the Commission's requests. If they fail to do so, the Commission
may decide to refer the matter to the EU Court of Justice.
