Prosecutor General Tsatsarov Confers with EU Commissioner Avramopoulos

Brussels, May 12 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - Meeting
in Brussels on Tuesday, Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov and
EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship
Dimitris Avramopoulos on Tuesday discussed measures against
terrorism and extremism.

After the meeting Tsatsarov told Bulgarian media that
Commissioner Avramopoulos and he focused on the EU Internal
Security Strategy 2020 and measures taken by the Bulgarian
prosecution service to counter terrorism, corruption, organized
crime and religious extremism.

Tsatsarov said that the July 2012 bombing at Bourgas Airport has
had a sobering effect, showing that bombings are not a
farfetched possibility in Bulgaria.

On July 18 2012, a bus bombing at Bourgas Sarafovo Airport in
Bulgaria killed five Israeli holiday-makers, their Bulgarian bus
driver and the suspected suicide bomber.

The Prosecutor General said: "If we do our job, we should be
able to control that threat to an extent, but this requires a
unified and responsible approach by politicians, prosecutors and
everyone."

Tsatsarov said that Commissioner Avramopoulos had taken in stock
the significant migratory pressure on Bulgaria as an external
border of the EU. There had been understanding that each EU
country should take its share of the responsibility instead of
only first line countries bearing the brunt.
