Passengers Handled by Sofia Airport in April 2015 Increase by More than 6% Year on Year

Sofia, May 16 (BTA) - Sofia Airport said on Saturday that it
handled 325,790 passengers in April 2015, increasing by more
than 6 per cent compared with April 2014. Passenger traffic on
scheduled international flights to/from Sofia Airport increased
by 6.3 per cent to 308,670 people.

The largest increase in passengers to/from Sofia Airport was
reported by Wizz Air, which serviced 25,000 more people in April
2015 than in April 2014. The increase resulted from the
introduction of three new direct services in May 2014 and more
frequent flights along some routes on the current summer
timetable.

Since the beginning of March, Qatar Airways has been operating a
direct service between Sofia and Doha
(Doha-Sofia-Belgrade-Sofia-Doha). This led to a 50 per cent
increase in passengers between Sofia and Doha in April 2015
compared with April 2014.

The number of passengers transported by Air Serbia to/from Sofia
Airport doubled as a result of increased capacity and seat
occupancy rates between Sofia and Belgrade.

Other carriers which recorded a year-on-year rise in passengers
to/from Sofia Airport in April included Lufthansa, British
Airways, Aegean Airlines, Alitalia and Turkish Airlines.

Chartered services carried 5,104 passengers to/from Sofia
Airport in April 2015, which was 2,176 more than in April 2014.
This was entirely due to more varied service packages offered by
Bulgarian tour operators during the Easter holidays.

Bulgarian package travellers flying to/from Sofia Airport in
April 2015 doubled from a year earlier.

Domestic services to/from Sofia Airport recorded a fall by 19
per cent, with 9,707 passengers transported in April 2015.

There were 3,654 plane landings and takeoffs at Sofia Airport
during the month in review, compared with 3,448 a year earlier.
Scheduled international services saw a 4 per cent increase in
landings and takeoffs.
