Educational Programmes Make up  Only 1% of  TV Content

Sofia, May 22 (BTA) - Educational programmes made up a mere 1
per cent of the content of Bulgarian TV channels against 5.9 per
cent for advertising, according to recent official statistics
for 2014. It translates into 7,600 hours for educational
programmes and 45,600 hours for commercials.

The largest share are feature films and TV series (29.5 per cent
or 228,200 hours), followed by music shows (15.5 per cent or
119,900 hours) and information programmes (7.2 per cent and
55,900 hours).

In 2014, there were 112 licenced Bulgarian TV operators which
was nine more than the year before.

They broadcast a total of 773,300 hours which was 7.9 per cent
more than in 2013.

Radio broadcasters had 673,000 hours of programmes in 2014 which
was 3.5 per cent more than in 2013. The largest share of
programmes went to music (43.6 per cent), followed by newscasts
and political programmes, sport news and weather forecast (11.9
per cent each).

Art and culture shows were 2 per cent and educational programmes
1.3 per cent. Commercials took 5.7 per cent of the time.
