Bulgaria, UNFPA to Promote Cooperation in Order to Establish Good Practices

Sofia, May 28 (BTA) - The demographic situation both in Bulgaria
and many developed countries is complicated and, therefore, a
serious approach and special programmes are needed in this
sphere, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov said at a
meeting with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Deputy
Executive Director Kate Gilmore, Mitov's Ministry said on
Thursday.

Gilmore is in Sofia to take part in the Regional Conference
"Promoting Health and Rights, Reducing Inequalities: Towards
Better Sexual and Reproductive Health Outcomes in Eastern Europe
and Central Asia".

Minister Mitov praised Bulgaria's hitherto cooperation with
UNFPA and voiced hope that the number of joint initiatives will
increase. He recalled that Bulgaria has already taken up the
Chairmanship-in-Office of the South-East European Cooperation
Process (SEECP) and could add addressing demographic problems
and healthcare to the identified priorities.

Minister Mitov and the guest were unanimous that the joint work
with the Youth Peer Education Network (Y-PEER) and the
implementation of the Y-PEER PETRI-Sofia initiative are symbolic
of the good ties between Bulgaria and UNFPA.

Gilmore also said that Bulgaria sets an example of the active
involvement of young people in public life.
