Financial Instability and Dependence Concerns for Over Half of Bulgarian  Women if They Were to Have Child

Sofia, June 2 (BTA) - Almost half of Bulgarian women, or 47 per
cent, are concerned about financial instability and dependence
if they were to have a child at this moment, shows a survey
conducted by Exacta Research Group in April among 703 females in
the 18 to 43 age group. The results were presented here on
Tuesday at BTA's National Press Club.

These concerns are more common among the youngest females,
university students, those living in difficult conditions and
women who practice liberal professions. Some 36 per cent of
respondents claim that they and their partner are not ready to
have a child. According to 35 per cent of them, having a child
right now could affect their work and career development.

One in five women note that the lack of a steady partner and a
family does not affect their desire to have a child. This
opinion is expressed mostly by women who enjoy an above-average
standard of living and those aged between 36 and 43.

Fifty-eight per cent of respondents said they would try
in-vitro-fertilization in case they have difficulties with
conceiving a child. Another 14 per cent said they would adopt a
child, while four per cent said they would go on with their
lives without having children.

The number of egg cells in women starts decreasing after the age
of 25 until 35-37, when the depletion starts at a fast rate,
reproductive health specialist Dr. Georgi Stamenov commented.
Along with the reduction, the quality of egg cells also
deteriorates, along with the share of those with chromosomal
defects, the expert warns those women who wish to have a child
at a later age.
