Investment Plan about
Northwestern Bulgaria, Other
Disadvantaged Regions Developed - Minister

Vratsa, July 11 (BTA) - Unlike previous years, when an abundant amount of strategies was generated, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works is preparing an investment plan for Northwestern Bulgaria and for other vulnerable regions, reporting great social and economic differences compared to the developed regions. This what Deputy Prime Minister for EU Funds Tomislav Donchev said addressing a forum "Policy of the North West - Time of Action" in Vratsa. The forum was unveiled by National Assembly Chairperson Tsetska Tsacheva.

Taking a question, Donchev said that the plan will count on financing both by the EU funds and the national budget. One hundred and fifty million leva are guaranteed for the big cities within OP Regions in Growth alone. The funding within the Rural Development Programme and Innovations and Competitiveness are 1,000 million leva. Donchev recalled that an additional bonus is envisaged for projects within these programmes that are to be implemented in Northwestern Bulgaria.

The Deputy Prime Minister gave full assurances that the 400 million euro project on the modernization of the Vidin-Medkovets railway line will be implemented as the financing comes from the Connecting Europe Facility. The design is being developed at the moment and construction activities may be launched in 2017. Financing under this mechanism is likely to be sought for the modernization of the Vidin-Sofia railway and road line in the future, he added. /PK/TK/
