Parliament Elects  Dimiter Radev as Central Bank Governor

Sofia, July 14 (BTA) - At an extraordinary sitting on Tuesday,
the National Assembly elected Dimiter Radev governor of the
Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) with 130 votes in favour, 16
against and 34 abstentions. Radev was nominated by GERB and the
Reformist Bloc.

The new governor's mandate is six years.

Radev holds a master's degree in economics, finance and credit.
In 1994, he specialized at the International Relations Institute
 of Georgetown University.  He was deputy finance minister in
six governments after 1991. Radev has experience in governing
banks:  he was on the Supervisory Council of Commercial Bank
Expressbank for three years and member of the Administrative
Council of the Council of Europe Development Bank for seven
years. In the last 14 years, Radev has been working at the
International Monetary Fund.

The other candidates were Bisser Manolov, proposed by the
parliamentary group of the Reformist Bloc, Viktor Yotsov by ABV
and Grigorii Vazov by the Patriotic Front. Manolov received 37
votes in favour, 18 against and 118 abstentions; Yotsov - 44
votes in favour, 22 against and 104 abstentions; Vazov - 43
votes in favour,12 against and 116 abstentions.
