Police Officers Stage 44th Day of  Protests

Sofia, July 25 (BTA) - Employees in the security sector staged
their 44th day of protest on Saturday. The rally was held in
front of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in downtown Sofia.

The protestors are unhappy with the changed conditions for
retirement and demand a three-year grace period for the new
terms. They also urge for structural changes in the system,
mainly in the Fire Safety and Protection of the Population
Directorate General.

The Trade Union Federation of Interior Ministry Employees urged
Prime Minister Boyko Borissov to study more carefully the reason
because of which "his fellow workers" have been protesting in
the course of 44 days, President of the trade union Valentin
Popov said. Borissov was chief secretary of the Interior
Ministry in 2001-2005. Popov said also that the blows dealt on
the system by politicians and incumbents in turn affect people
as the Interior Ministry is not capable of ensuring a basic
need: security.
