Prime Minister Voices Grave Disappointment about Rejection of Referendum Questions

Sofia, July 30 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov Thursday
expressed grave disappointment about the dropping of two of the
questions proposed by the President in an upcoming referendum.
Approached by a reporter, Borissov expressed regret that the
other parties in Parliament did not support the referendum
questions proposal.

On Tuesday the MPs decided that the national referendum in
October will only include one question - about remote electronic
voting in political elections. The lawmakers rejected two other
questions about majority and compulsory voting.

Borissov said that he was gravely disappointed because his GERB
party was in favour of the three question. He argued that if the
MPs from the other groups had not been absent, the rejection of
the question would not have taken place. Borissov pointed the
finger to the Reformist Bloc (RB), saying that "making public
statements is fine, the RB are great democrats but their job is
to take up their seat in the plenary chamber". "When they plan
their travels abroad they must know that the last weeks [before
Parliament's summer recess] are the most important and they must
be present in the plenary chamber," the PM said.

Commenting the protests of the business against the pending
increase of the price of electricity, Borissov said he fully
supports the decisions of the Electricity and Water Regulatory
Commission (EWRC). He recalled that EWRC was elected by
Parliament and that in its nine-member composition GERB has only
two participants. The Prime Minister also said that he had had
at least 4-5 meetings with the trade unions, the business and
the ministers to reach the current price-setting model to be
used by the regulator in setting the new electricity prices.
