Bulgarian Democratic Centre MPs Submit Statements of Leaving Group to Floor Leaders

Sofia, July 31 (BTA) - MPs of the Popular Union, part of the
Bulgarian Democratic Centre (BDC) parliamentary group, have
submitted statements that they are leaving the group to the
floor leaders, the union's press office said.

MPs Svetlin Tanchev, Georgi Kovachev, Borislav Iglev, Roumen
Yonchev and Yavor Haitov state that their actions were motivated
by the refusal of their colleagues from BDC to accept inclusion
of 'Popular Union' in the name of the parliamentary groups.

"The MPs of the Popular Union find that the political
differences in the group should be defined clearly around the
three main political representations: BDC, Bulgaria without
Censorship and the Popular Union. Although we share the
responsibility before our voters, which we are not shunning, we
have to declare clearly the differences between us and our
colleagues, mostly related to the revisions in the energy laws,
the unreserved support for the incumbent, our views about
judicial reform and a number of other problems," the Popular
Union says.

"When we ran in the elections together we did not in any way
undertake to support a GERB government. We do not want to
distinguish ourselves from our colleagues after each vote and we
think it would be fair for both our supporters and our MP
colleagues to know that there are two groups - that of Ms
Kovachka and that of the Popular Union," the statement
says.
