Dozens of Illegal Syrian Migrants Detained near Bulgarian-Turkish Border

Sofia, August 1 (BTA) - Bulgarian border police detained dozens of illegal Syrian migrants near the village of Kapitan Andreevo, close to the border with Turkey, the Interior Ministry said on Saturday.

The arrests were made after a border patrol intercepted a car and two vans. Inside the vehicles, they found 60 people. Six of them were Bulgarians accompanying Syrian migrants, including 25 children, who had entered Bulgaria illegally. Later on, the patrol also arrested two other people in the same area.

The vehicles, all of them registered in Haskovo, Southern Bulgaria, were impounded. The aliens were accommodated at temporary detention centres operated by the Svilengrad Border Police Department. The children and their mothers were placed in a special mother-and-child section.
