Bulgarian European Commissioner Georgieva:Restoration Work of Flood-hit Miziya Continues

Sofia, August 3 (BTA) - In a phone call with Violin Kroushovenski, the Mayor of the Northwestern town of Miziya which was hit by a devastating flood a year ago, Bulgarian European Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva discussed ways to speed up the restoration work after the disaster, the Representation of the European Commission in Sofia said.

Georgieva said that the restoration works continue to this day. She noted that with the climate change disasters will hit more often and will be impossible to avert, which increases the need for preventive measures in the building of facilities and infrastructure. She also stressed the need for property insurance. Statistics shows that every euro invested in preventive measures saves between 4 and 7 euros in damage when a disaster hits.

Georgieva said that prevention and preparedness should become part of the Bulgarians' mindset so as to avoid every disaster becoming a grave tragedy.
