Taste of Bulgarian-produced Yoghurt Is Not Genuine - Expert

Pernik, August 9 (BTA) - The Bulgarians have forgotten the genuine taste of the yoghurt, Nikolai Andreev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of LB Bulgaricum, a leading company in the dairy industry, told a BTA reporter. Andreev attributes this to the entry of foreign producers of yoghurt on the Bulgarian market.

The foreign companies use a genetically modified starter culture and not a living one. "Apart from a loss of its genuine taste, this also leads to a loss of the nutrition qualities of the yoghurt," Andreev continues.

At the same time, the original Bulgarian starters are on demand at the international market. Yoghurt based on Bulgarian starters is produced in Japan, China, Singapore and Thailand. The profit received allows to make investments in research in the area of milk processing, Andreev explained.
