Energy Regulator Envisages Reduction of Public Obligation Surcharge for Non-Household Electricity Customers

Sofia, October 22 (BTA) - The Energy and Water Regulatory
Commission (EWRC) Thursday adopted a report envisaging a
reduction of the public obligation surcharge to the electricity
price of 1.07 leva/MWh or some 2 per cent as from November 1 for
non-household customers purchasing low-voltage electricity on
the regulated market, EWRC Chairman Ivan Ivanov told
journalists. There are no plans to reduce the surcharge for
household customers.

The purpose of the public obligation surcharge is to compensate
the National Electric Company (NEK) the costs arising from
public obligations to purchase electricity from renewable
sources and high-efficiency cogeneration of heat and power at
feed-in tariffs. The surcharge was set at 38 leva/MWh for both
household and non-household users, effective August 1, 2015.
Until then, the surcharge was 18.93 leva for non-household users
and 40.21 leva for household users. The four nationally
representative employers' organizations in Bulgaria oppose the
increase.
