Gas Pipeline Failure near Pavlikeni Causes Fire
Sofia, October 23 (BTA) - A failure along the main gas pipeline
in the area of Pavlikeni (North Central Bulgaria) and the
Letnitsa linear tap took place around 6:18 am on Friday, the
Energy Ministry reported. A gas leak followed that caused a fire
on the territory of Patresh village. All protective systems
have kicked in and the faucets are closed. Repair work is being
done, the ministry said.
The failure took place between the village of Nedan and the
Pavlikeni Geographic Information System. There is no danger to
the population in the area, the Energy Ministry said. Four
firefighter teams are working on site, and police and
Bulgartransgaz teams are also present.
The failure is expected to be repaired within 48 hours and the
gas supply in the region should also be restored.
Bulgartransgaz has undertaken the necessary measures to continue
the injection of natural gas in the Chiren gas storage facility
along the network's southern half-ring, the ministry said.
Energy Minister Temenouzhka Petkova is travelling to the site of
the failure.
