Bulgaria Local Elections: Voter Turnout at 27.65% by 13 Hrs

Sofia,October 25 (BTA) - Voter turnout at the local elections as at 1 p.m. was 27.65 per cent, the Central Election Commission (CEC) said. A total of 1,402,875 people have so far cast their vote.

The turnout ranged from 17 per cent to 28 per cent in the larger cities.

A total of 807,686 peoplevoted in the national referendum on electronic voting, which makes a turnout of 14.79 per cent.

The turnout in the local elections was highest in Treklyano with 56.68 per cent and lowests in Razlog with 3.14 per cent. In the referendum, the turnout was highest in Makresh (46.5 per cent) and lowest in Ruen (1.03 per cent).

Following are figures for the turnout in some of the larger settlements in this country:

Sofia - 17.4 per cent in the local elections;
Sofia Region - over 30 per cent, including Koprivshtitsa (36.22 per cent in the local elections, 39.9 per cent in the referendum), Svoge (28 per cent and 22 per cent, respectively), Chelopech (48 per cent and 40 per cent, respectively), Gorna Malina (32.7 per cent and as many in the referendum), Dragoman (38 per cent and 30 per cent, respectively);
Plovdiv Region - 17.43 per cent in the local elections and 15.33 per cent in the referendum (by 10 am);
Pazardjik Region - 21.75 per cent in the local elections and 17.75 per cent in the referendum;
Varna Region - 20 per cent for local government and 17 per cent in the referendum;
Bourgas Region - 22.58 per cent in the elections and 20.43 per cent in the referendum;
Pleven Region - 22.68 per cent in the elections and 20.2 per cent in the referendum;
Vratsa Region - 25.42 per cent in the local elections and 21.10 per cent in the referendum;
Veliko Turnovo - 25 per cent in the local elections and 21.25 per cent in the referendum.

Close to 70 per cent of inmates in penitentiary estbalishments, who are eligible to vote, have already done so. They cast their votes in 26 voting stations, including 12 in prisons and 14 in remand centres.
