PM Borissov: "Bulgaria Opposed to Loans for Coping with Refugee Wave"

Brussels, October 25 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - "I
categorically reject the idea of contracting a loan from
international financial institutions in order to cope with the
refugee wave," Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told a
news conference in Brussels on Sunday evening. He took part in a
meeting on migration issues of the heads of State or government
of eight EU Member States, Serbia and Macedonia, called by
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

The EC's proposal mentions, among the options for coping with
the migrant flows, financing by international financial
institutions for accommodating EU residence status seekers.

"I think that each one of us can handle this through their own
budgets, through the European Commission and the EU funds,
instead of increasing our deficits and debt for such a thing,"
the PM explained.

"By what is proposed, some Member States may be tempted to
replace their entire military materiel, the border protection
equipment, on borrowed money, and send their deficits up. In a
year's time, we may thus yet again speak about a financial
crisis, that's why I oppose the idea," Borissov said.

He noted that he again asked how many refugees Europe is ready
to receive.
