Wine Tour Map Takes Visitors on Journey through Melnik Area

Melnik, Southwestern Bulgaria, February 12 (BTA) - Wine-makers in Melnik have drawn up a bilingual map of wine tours in the area to promote this kind of travel. The map features all local wine cellars which are open to visitors, wine-makers who possess vineyards and run wine tasting rooms, and other important features related to the classic drink.

The landmarks include Melnik's Wine Museum, a shop which has the largest collection of local wines, the famous Kordopoulov House and the first wine bar in Sandanski. The area's main cultural, historical, natural and religious sites are also shown, with essential information provided about them.

The map is being distributed free of charge via travel information centres, tourist agencies and wine facilities, as well as online through an official page on Facebook. Its creators hope it will inspire many Bulgarian and international wine fans to embark on a journey around an area which is not only rich in natural beauty and cultural and historical sites but also boasts a centuries-old wine-making tradition.
