A multifunctional training centre named after the poet Mihai Eminescu has opened in Chisinau for the 33rd anniversary of the State Protection and Guard Service (SPPS). The centre will be used for theoretical training of the SPPS officers.
Several countries participated in the construction of the centre, including Bulgaria, which provided BGN 70,801 of the total project cost of BGN 96,135. The financing is in the form of grant aid provided through the Foreign Ministry's Bulgarian Development Aid programme, the Embassy in Chisinau said. As part of the project, specialized training equipment, computers and furniture were purchased, which will improve the training conditions.
Bulgarian Ambassador Maya Dobreva attended the event. She congratulated the leadership of the service on the successful implementation of the project and expressed Bulgaria's readiness to continue supporting Moldova on its European path of development, including by funding future projects in the security sector.
Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean also stressed the importance of investments for adapting the SPPS to the new security challenges and praised the dedication of the personnel. He noted that the service demonstrated impeccable organization of security at an international event - the European Political Community Summit held in Chisinau in 2023.
Many staff members of the service were awarded honorary diplomas by the government in recognition of their contribution to safeguarding high-ranking officials.
