Inspectors to Monitor Lawfulness of Hiring Foreign Workers
Sofia, June 6 (BTA) - The General Labour Inspectorate (GLI) said on Monday it will monitor the lawfulness of hiring foreign workers in Bulgaria. In connection with the start of the high summer tourist season and the stated intention of tourism employers to hire citizens of foreign countries in order to make up for the shortage of labour, the GLI recalled that national legislation has established special rules for foreign workers.
The rules are contained primarily in the new Labour Migration and Labour Mobility Act, which became effective on May 21.
Inspectors will be checking whether foreign employees possess the required type of permits to stay and work in Bulgaria, which must be issued by Interior Ministry services, or permits of access to the Bulgarian labour market, including freelance jobs, which are issued by the executive director of the Employment Agency.
