Bulgaria to Grow 20-25% Less Tobacco than Last Year

Silistra, on the Danube, June 6 (BTA) - Bulgaria will grow 20 to 25 per cent less tobacco than last year, Tsvetan Filev, President of the National Tobacco Growers Association 2010, said on Monday.

Filev said the crop will be grown on 10,000 to 11,000 hectares of land and the amount will be between 19,000 and 20,000 tonnes.

Tobacco of the Kabakulak, Burley and Basmi varieties has been fully planted. The planting of Virginia tobacco has been accomplished on 80 per cent of the allotted acreage.

The whole process is expected to be completed around June 20.
