ABV Proposes Georgi Purvanov and Ivailo Kalfin for President of Bulgaria

Sofia, July 26 (BTA) - The ABV party said on Tuesday it is proposing its Chairman Georgi Purvanov and Deputy Chairman Ivailo Kalfin as potential candidates for president of Bulgaria that could be nominated by a broad centre-left coalition. The news was reported by the ABV press office after a meeting of the party's Executive Bureau.

Purvanov, who served two terms as president of Bulgaria between 2002 and 2012, and Kalfin, who is a former deputy prime minister and former labour minister, were both proposed for president by grassroots ABV chapters ahead of this autumn's presidential elections.

The party also said it is willing to consider "an equidistant yet highly electable presidential candidate nominated by a broad circle of centre-left political entities."

The ABV insisted that the centre-left parties should expand and step up their negotiations on nominating a single presidential candidate.
