site.btaBulgarian National Theatre to Hold First Ever Premiere Abroad at South East Revisited Festival in Germany

The play Darkness on the Edge of Town, a co-production of Ivan Vazov National Theatre and Theatre Oberhausen, will open South East Revisited Festival in Germany. The production will be shown on April 3 and 4 in Bulgarian with English and German subtitles, the National Theatre said on Thursday.

The first National Theatre performance to premiere on an international stage is a result of the partnership with the Theatre Oberhausen and the Goethe Institute (Bulgaria), marking an important step in expanding its presence outside the country.

Created by the Bosnian playwright Dario Bevanda, the story shows two women in Sarajevo finding an audio diary from the 1990s - a testimony of the wartime past that confronts them with their own fears and wounds.

The production is directed by Kathrin Madler, Artistic Director of Theatre Oberhausen. The cast includes Bilyana Petrinska, Zafir Radjab, Aneta Ivanova.
