Sofia, January 6 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) and the Executive Environment Agency are organizing a campaign dedicated to counting the water birds wintering in Bulgaria. Starting January 13, more than 100 volunteers and members of BSPB will form into over 40 teams, which will proceed to visit all large bodies of water within the country, said BSPB.

Participants will be tasked with counting the birds, determining their species and distribution. This initiative will take place for the 46th consecutive year.

Counting the birds will occur concurrently in nearly every European country as well as in Africa and the Middle East. More than 200 wetlands will be covered in Bulgaria, including the Danube and Black Sea coastal areas, as well as all large reservoirs and fishponds.
