Sofia, September 13 (BTA) - "Bulgaria highly appreciates Ignat Kaneff's patriotic work and his support for preserving the cultural and intellectual traditions of the Bulgarian community in Canada and for the implementation of a number of educational and health care projects in this country," Bulgarian President Roumen Radev said here on Wednesday as he conferred with the businessman, philanthropist and Bulgarian Honorary Consul based in Mississauga, the President's Press Secretariat said.

"The Bulgarian community in Canada is actively involved in this country's economic and public life, and we try to be both good Canadians and good Bulgarians," Kaneff said for his part. He familiarized Radev with a number of projects completed with the support of his foundation, as well as with the development of the first Vassil Levski monument in Canada. "It is extremely important to us to make it possible for the children of Bulgarian immigrants to preserve their language and themselves as a part of the Bulgarian people," he added.

Kaneff was adamant that the inauguration of a new pediatric ward at the University Hospital in Rousse will not be the last donation that his foundation will make to Bulgaria.
