site.btaBulgaria's Mariya Gabriel Takes Oath as New EU Commissioner

Brussels/Luxembourg, September 14 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - At a ceremony in Luxembourg, Bulgaria's Maria Gebriel took the oath Thursday as the new member of the European Commission.

She was named EU Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society on July 7. The Thursday ceremony concludes the procedure of her appointment for a term until mid-2019.

Prior to her nomination to the European Commission, Gabriel was a member of the European Parliament (since 2009).

The previous Bulgarian representative in the European Commission, left in January 2017 to take a World Bank office.

In Sofia, the Central Election Commission named Assim Ademov as a member of the European Parliament to take the sea vacated by Gabriel. Ademov ran in the European Parliament elections on the ticket of Bulgaria's ruling GERB party.
